Libraries

The US Army Hawaii Libraries provide services and materials in a variety of formats to support the information, education, and recreation needs of the Hawaii Army community. The main library, SGT Yano, is located at Schofield Barracks. Branch libraries are located at Fort Shafter and Aliamanu Military Reservation.

Stop by the library to find materials for every age and interest. The collections include books for children and teens, bestsellers, study guides, newspapers and magazines, comic books and manga, books on CDs, music CDs, DVD movies, and videogames.

GLIS Online Library Catalog: The online catalog provides access to the holdings of the Army Hawaii libraries as well as the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies.  Patrons may browse, reserve and renew materials from any of these libraries from the publicly-accessible web catalog. Call your local library for your web login and PIN information to access the online catalog.

Programs: The libraries bring you many fun and educational programs. Storytime is held at SGT Yano Library every Wednesday at 10:00 AM. In addition, a variety of programs are offered throughout the year, for children, teens, and adults. Examples include book clubs, craft activities, live performances, and the Summer Reading Program. Library activities are announced in the DFMWR Discovery and the Library News & Event Section.

Computers with Internet access are available at all libraries for conducting research, participating in distance learning, as well as staying in touch with family and friends. Free wireless access is available at Sgt Yano, Fort Shafter, and Aliamanu Libraries. SGT Yano Library is also a Wireless Speed Zone for Oceanic Road Runner customers.

Video story time is offered at SGT Yano and Fort Shafter libraries, giving military parents the opportunity to read to their children even when the parent is deployed. Parents may bring their own favorite books or use library books to tape a story time for their children. The library will provide video equipment to make a DVD. All military personnel are welcome, but preference will be given to those personnel who will be deploying. Please call to make appointments.
