2012 US Army Garrison, Hawaii (USAG-HI)
Each year, USAG-HI takes the opportunity to recognize and appreciate all of its volunteers. On 19 Apr 12, 1830-2000 at the Nehelani on Schofield Barracks, under the theme Volunteers….The Force Behind the Force, USAG-HI will host the 2012 Installation Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. While all volunteers are invited to attend the event, the community is invited to nominate volunteers to be recognized at the ceremony. Volunteers can be nominated in the following categories: Soldier, Spouse, Family, Civilian, Youth, Retiree and Volunteer Ambassador of the Year.
Each person, unit, community, or volunteer agency can nominate one volunteer category: Family, Youth/Young Adult, Soldier, Spouse, Civilian, Retiree, and Volunteer Ambassador. There is no minimum hours requirement. Volunteer service must support the Army Community and have made a significant impact on organization, project or community where service was performed, except in the Volunteer Ambassador category. All nominees must be registered on www.myarmyonesource.com in the Volunteer Management Information System (VMIS) and have submitted their hours for the calendar year of 2011. , submitted through www.himwr.com/ACS or hand carried to the Schofield Barracks Army Community Service no later than 1630, 9 March 2012. Each nomination packet must include picture(s) of the nominee in action. Nominations not meeting requirements will be rejected.
Volunteers can be nominated in the following categories:
a. Soldier. The Soldier Volunteer of the Year category is to recognize US Army Soldiers who have provided outstanding volunteer service to the Hawaii Army Community. Volunteer service must have occurred on an Army Installation or military community. Nominees in this category must be an Active Duty (Active, Reserve or National Guard) ID Card holder.
b. Spouse. The Spouse Volunteer of the Year category is to recognize Army Spouses who have provided outstanding volunteer service to the Hawaii Army Community. Volunteer service must have occurred on an Army Installation or military community. Nominees in this category must be a Dependent ID Card holder.
c. Family. The Family Volunteer of the Year is to recognize Army Families who have provided outstanding volunteer service to the Hawaii Army Community. Individual members of the nominated Family cannot be nominated in a different category. Nominees must be Army ID Card holders.
d. Civilian. The Civilian Volunteer of the Year category is to recognize any age Civilian who has provided outstanding volunteer service to the Hawaii Army Community. Volunteer service must have occurred on an Army Installation or military community and cannot fall within the normal duty day. Nominees in this category cannot be an Active Duty or Dependent ID Card holder.
e. Youth/Young Adult. The Youth/Young Adult Volunteer of the Year is to recognize Army Youth/Young Adults ages 11 to 23 and unmarried who provide outstanding volunteer service to the Hawaii Army Community. Volunteer service must have occurred on an Army Installation or military community. Nominees in this category must be an Army Dependent ID Card holder.
f. Retiree. The Retiree Volunteer of the Year category is to recognize Retirees who have provided outstanding volunteer service to the Hawaii Army Community. Volunteer service must have occurred on an Army Installation or military community. Nominees in this category must be a Retiree or Retiree Dependent ID Card holder.
g. Purple. The Purple volunteer of the Year category is to recognize sister service members or dependents (US Air Force, US Marines, US Navy or Coast Guard). Volunteer service must provide outstanding volunteer service to the Hawaii Army Community. Volunteer service must have occurred on an Army Installation or Military Community. Nominees is this category must be an Active Duty or Dependent ID Card holder of a sister service.
g. Volunteer Ambassador. The Volunteer Ambassador category is to recognize Army volunteers who have provided outstanding volunteer service to Hawaii Civilian community thereby extending the Partnership of Ohana. Nominees in this category must be an Army Active Duty or Dependent ID Card holder.
The AVCC will select members from the community to makeup the 2012 USAG-HI Volunteer of the Year Selection Committee. The selection committee will meet on 19 March 2012 to review and score each nomination packet, which will determine the Volunteer of the Year Awardees to be announced at the ceremony. Nominators will not be informed if their volunteer has been selected; all awardees will be revealed at the Installation Volunteer Recognition Ceremony.
